    Major Flood Warning For The Daintree River And Flood Warning For The Mossman River

    MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT DAINTREE VILLAGE OVERNIGHT THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY
     RAPID RIVER LEVEL RISES OCCURRING ALONG THE BLOOMFIELD RIVER
     Heavy rainfall since Thursday afternoon has caused rapid river level rises across the Daintree and Bloomfield River catchments. With forecast rain, major  flooding is possible at Daintree Village overnight Thursday into Friday. Rapid river level rises are occurring along the Bloomfield River at China Camp. River levels have started to rise along the Mossman River at Mossman.
     Further heavy rainfall is forecast across the Daintree and Mossman catchments during the remainder of Thursday and Friday as Tropical Low 29U approaches the coast. Higher river levels possible, which will depend on the timing and location of the heaviest falls. This situation is being closely monitored, and this warning will be updated as required. 
     A Severe Weather Warning for heavy, locally intense rainfall is current for parts of the Peninsula and North Tropical Coast and Tablelands Forecast Districts. A Flood Watch is current for North Tropical Coast and parts of Cape York Peninsula, Central Coast, Capricornia and Carpentaria catchments. 
    
    Daintree River:
    Major flooding is possible along the Daintree River. Major flooding is occurring at Bairds. Rapid river level rises are being observed at China Camp along the Bloomfield River. 
    The Daintree River at Daintree Village is currently at 6.85 m and rising, with moderate flooding.
    The Daintree River at Daintree Village is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (6.00 m) around 8:00 pm Thursday. The river may exceed the major flood level (9.00 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain. 
    
    Mossman River:
    Elevated river levels are likely along the Mossman River.
    
    Flood Safety Advice:
    Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
     Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
     Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
     Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
