ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for Peninsula and Gulf Country Sat 21 Mar 2026
Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Coastal Hazard Warning for ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for parts of Peninsula and Gulf Country Forecast Districts. Issued at 4:55 pm Saturday, 21 March 2026. Elevated sea levels for the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria. Weather Situation Elevated sea levels and waves as Tropical Cyclone Narelle moves westward over the Gulf of Carpentaria. ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas: Peninsula and Gulf Country ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES which may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas are expected between Mapoon and Pormpuraaw. Tides are likely to rise well above the normal high tide mark during the morning high tide. Damaging Surf conditions are which may lead to coastal erosion and localised damage to coastal infrastructure are possible. Locations which may be affected include Weipa, Aurukun, Pormpuraaw, Napranum and Old Mapoon. Emergency services advise people to: * Know your limitations around beaches, tidal rivers and creeks. Adhere to warning from lifesavers and lifeguards . * If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure. * If you have children make sure they are within arm's reach around the water. The next Coastal Hazard Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Saturday. Check https://www.bom.gov.au/weather-and-climate/warnings-and-alerts.
