Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of North East, North West Coast and Central North Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:30 pm Monday, 5 May 2025.

Damaging winds persisting across Tasmania overnight, redeveloping Tuesday afternoon.

Weather Situation
A series of cold fronts crossing Tasmania will result in a risk of damaging winds across much of the state overnight into Tuesday morning. Winds will ease for a period during the morning, before redeveloping during Tuesday afternoon. Additionally, the risk will be heightened with any showers or thunderstorms that develop during this time.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, North West Coast, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands
Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS of 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around of 100 km/h are expected to persist over western and central Tasmania, extending to eastern and southern parts of the state, including Hobart, during the late evening. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS may reach up to 120 km/h at exposed elevated areas.
DAMAGING WINDS are expected to ease below warning thresholds during Tuesday morning, before redeveloping during Tuesday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Strahan, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Monday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
