Major Flood Warning For The Georgina River And Eyre Creek
Issued at 02:58 PM AEST on Monday 02 March 2026
Flood Warning Number: 47
MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY AT BEDOURIE AROUND WEDNESDAY
MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT MARION DOWNS WITH FURTHER RISES AND A SIGNIFICANT MAJOR FLOOD PEAK EXPECTED LATER IN THE WEEK
MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GLENGYLE LATER IN THE WEEK
Significant rainfall and river level rises have been observed across the Georgina River and Eyre Creek catchments over the last several days. Along the Upper Georgina River, major flood peaks are approaching Glenormiston and Roxborough, while a moderate flood peak was observed early Monday morning along the Burke River at Boulia. These flows, in addition to initial inflows from neighbouring tributaries, have caused major flooding at Marion Downs, where the main flood peak is expected later in the week as upstream floodwaters continue to arrive.
Further downstream along Eyre Creek, inflows from King Creek and neighbouring tributaries have caused initial rises ahead of the main upper Georgina flood peak. Moderate flooding is occurring at Bedourie and major flooding may develop from mid week. Downstream at Glengyle, major flooding may develop later in the week. Significant renewed rises are expected in the coming weeks at Bedourie and Glengyle as floodwaters arrive from the upper catchment.
Additional river rises, localised flooding and overland inundation remain possible across the catchment as floodwaters move downstream. Road access is likely to be affected, and communities may become isolated. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.
