Minor Flood Warning For The Flinders And Cloncurry Rivers

MINOR FLOODING EXPECTED TO BE OCCURRING AT RICHMOND
MINOR FLOODING LIKELY CLONCURRY FROM LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed in parts of the Flinders and Cloncurry Rivers. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises, and minor flooding at Richmond.
Further areas of widespread rainfall with locally heavy totals are forecast to continue for the next few days, which is likely to result in further river and creek level rises along the Flinders and Cloncurry Rivers.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for heavy rainfall for parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Flinders River to Richmond:
Minor flooding is occurring along the Flinders River to Richmond.
There are no current observations for the Flinders River at Richmond, however based on the nearby automatic gauge the river level is expected to be above the minor flood level (5.00 m) and rising.
The Flinders River at Richmond is likely to remain above the minor flood level during Tuesday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Flinders River downstream of Richmond:
River and creek level rises are likely occurring along the lower Flinders River.
Cloncurry River:
Minor flooding is likely along the Cloncurry River.
The Cloncurry River at Cloncurry is currently at 2.87 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (3.00 m).
The Cloncurry River at Cloncurry is likely to reach the minor flood level late Tuesday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

MAJOR FLOODING MAY OCCUR AT MARION DOWNS FROM THURSDAY
BEDOURIE MAY REACH THE BRIDGE LEVEL FROM THURSDAY, BUT IS DEPENDANT ON UPSTREAM FLOWS AND FORECAST RAINFALL
Moderate to locally heavy rainfall has been observed along the Georgina River and Eyre Creek since Sunday night. This rainfall has resulted in river and creek level rises across the catchment, where moderate flooding is occurring at Marion Downs, Bedourie and minor flooding is occurring at Glengyle.
Further areas of widespread rainfall with locally heavy totals are forecast to continue for the next few days, which is likely to result in further rises.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Central West and parts of Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Georgina River to Marion Downs:
River level rises have been recorded along the Georgina River at Roxborough Downs. Moderate flooding is occuring at Glenormiston on the Georgina River and at Boulia on the Burke River. Major flooding may occur at Marion Downs as floodwaters arrive from upstream.
The Georgina River at Marion Downs was at 3.50 metres and rising at 7:10am Tuesday, above the minor flood level (3.00 m).
The Georgina River at Marion Downs may reach the moderate flood level (4.00 m) during Wednesday. The river level may reach the major flood level (5.00 m) during Thursday as floodwaters continue to arrive from upstream. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Georgina River downstream of Marion Downs:
Elevated river and creek level rises are occurring along the Georgina River as floodwaters continue to arrive from upstream.
Eyre Creek:
Moderate flooding is occurring along Eyre Creek at Bedourie and may occur downstream at Glengyle during Wednesday.
No recent observations are available for Glengyle at Eyre Creek however the river level was at 4.05 metres and rising 9:00am Tuesday, above the moderate flood level (4.00 m).
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (4.00 m) during Wednesday. The creek may reach the bridge level of 4.40 metres during Thursday, this timing is highly dependant on upstream flows and forecast rainfall.
The Eyre Creek at Glengyle was at 2.80 metres and rising 9:00am Monday, above the minor flood level (2.00 m).
The Eyre Creek at Glengyle may reach the moderate flood level (3.00 m) from Wednesday as floodwaters continue to arrive from upstream. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE ALONG THE WESTERN RIVER AT WINTON FROM TUESDAY EVENING. WITH FORECAST RAINFALL FURTHER RISES ARE POSSIBLE
MINOR FLOODING NO LONGER LIKELY ALONG THE DIAMANTINA RIVER AT BIRDSVILLE
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the last several days has caused river level rises across the Diamantina and Western River, and nearby creeks. Minor flooding is likely at Winton from Tuesday afternoon with moderate flooding possible from Tuesday evening.
Elevated river levels continue around Birdsville, however minor flooding is no longer likely. The situation will be closely monitored as upstream floodwaters arrive in the coming weeks and the flood warning will be updated as required.
Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms are forecast for the next few days.
A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall is current for the Central West and parts of the Northern Goldfield and Upper Flinders, North West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.
The situation is being closely monitored and this warning will be updated as required.
Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
Moderate flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes. The river level is currently at 5.45 metres and rising, which is around 3.35 metres above the level of the causeway on the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road (2.10 m).
Western River:
Moderate flooding may occur along the Western River.
The Western River at Winton is currently 1.25 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (1.50 m).
The Western River at Winton is likely to exceed the minor flood level (1.50 m) Tuesday afternoon and may reach the moderate flood level (2.00 m) from Tuesday evening. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Flooding is no longer likely along the Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is currently at 2.80 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (4.00 m).
The Diamantina River at Birdsville is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m). Small renewed river level rises are possible with the forecast rainfall. Further renewed river level rises are expected in the coming weeks as upstream flood waters arrive.

Weather Situation
A deep surface trough with an embedded low pressure system is situated over the west of the state and has combined with a very moist tropical airmass to produce heavy rainfall. Areas of scattered rain, heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue over western and central parts of the state throughout Tuesday.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego
HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is likely to continue through the warning area throughout Tuesday. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm are likely, with isolated falls of up to 80 mm possible. 24-hourly rainfall totals of between 70 to 100 mm are likely, with isolated totals of up to 150 mm possible.
Heavy rainfall is forecast to become more isolated during Wednesday.
Flood Watches and Warnings have been issued for multiple catchments in the west and centre of the state. See http://www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/ for more information.
Locations which may be affected include Charleville, Longreach, Winton, Windorah, Isisford and Barcaldine.
Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.
