MAJOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT GUNNEDAH FRIDAY AFTERNOON
MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT TAMWORTH OVERNIGHT THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY
Moderate rainfall has been observed across the Peel and Namoi River catchments since Wednesday morning. Further rainfall is forecast during Thursday.
Forecast rainfall in the Peel River catchment is likely to cause minor flooding at Tamworth Thursday afternoon, with moderate flooding possible overnight Thursday into Friday.
In the Namoi River catchment, minor flooding is possible at Manilla Thursday afternoon, and at Carroll Village Friday afternoon. The combined flows from the Mooki River at Breeza, the Peel River through Carroll Gap, and potential outflows from Keepit Dam are likely to cause flooding downstream at Gunnedah. Minor flooding is likely at Gunnedah Thursday evening, with major flooding possible Friday afternoon, depending on forecast rainfall.
The earlier flood peak has passed downstream of Goangra and is moving towards Walgett on the Barwon River. Moderate flooding is occurring at Goangra, with river levels likely to fall below the moderate flood level Thursday afternoon.
Peel River:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Peel River.
The Peel River at Tamworth is currently at 0.51 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Peel River at Tamworth is likely to exceed the minor flood level (3.00 m) Thursday afternoon. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (4.20 m) overnight Thursday into Friday. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
Namoi River:
Major flooding is possible along the Namoi River. Moderate flooding is occurring at Goangra.
The Namoi River at Manilla is currently at 1.40 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Namoi River at Manilla may reach around the minor flood level (6.10 m) Thursday afternoon.
No observations are currently available for the Namoi River at Carroll Village.
The Namoi River at Carroll Village may reach around the minor flood level (8.20 m) Friday afternoon.
The Namoi River at Gunnedah is currently at 2.24 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Namoi River at Gunnedah is likely to exceed the minor flood level (7.30 m) Thursday evening. The river is likely to exceed the moderate flood level (7.60 m) early Friday morning. The river may reach around the major flood level (7.90 m) Friday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.
The Namoi River at Goangra is currently at 6.73 m and steady, with moderate flooding.
The Namoi River at Goangra is likely to fall below the moderate flood level (6.70 m) Thursday afternoon. The river is likely to remain above the minor flood level (5.50 m) through the weekend.
