Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for parts of Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.

Damaging winds about the Great Dividing Range with blizzards overnight about the Snowy Mountains.
Weather Situation
West to northwesterly winds have strengthened ahead of an approaching cold front, resulting in damaging winds on the southern ranges and alpine peaks, expected to extend to the Blue Mountains late this evening.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory
For ALPINE PEAKS above 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 80 to 90 km/h with peak gusts around 110 km/h are expected into the evening and early Monday morning.
For SOUTHERN RANGES below 1900 metres: DAMAGING WINDS averaging 50 to 65 km/h with gusts around 100 km/h are possible into the evening and early Monday morning.
BLIZZARD conditions are forecast above 1500 metres in the Snowy Mountains from late this evening until early Monday morning. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve.
For the BLUE MOUNTAINS: DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h may develop late this evening.
Winds will ease below warning thresholds throughout the state around sunrise Monday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Katoomba, Braidwood, Nerriga, Mount Ginini, Jindabyne and Thredbo.
94 km/h wind gust was observed at Perisher Valley at 2:06 pm.
Sustained 91 km/h winds were observed at Thredbo Top Station at 11:46 am.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
* Keep at least 8 metres away from fallen power lines or objects that may be energised, such as fences.
* Trees that have been damaged by fire are likely to be more unstable and more likely to fall.
* Report fallen power lines to either Ausgrid (131 388), Endeavour Energy (131 003), Essential Energy (132 080) or Evoenergy (131 093) as shown on your power bill.
* Stay vigilant and monitor conditions. Note that the landscape may have changed following bushfires.
* For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Sunday.
