    Major Flood Warning For The Roper And Waterhouse Rivers

    MAJOR FLOODING LIKELY AT BESWICK BRIDGE
     Heavy rainfall since Monday afternoon has caused river level rises along the Waterhouse River.  River levels are rising at Beswick Bridge with major flooding likely this evening. 
     Heavy rainfall remains possible for the next few days. The situation is being closely monitored and the warning will be updated as required. 
     A Flood Watch is current for parts of the Top End.
    
    Waterhouse River:
    Major flooding is likely along the Waterhouse River.
    The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is currently at 8.19 m and rising, with moderate flooding.
    The Waterhouse River at Beswick Bridge is likely to exceed the major flood level (8.70 m) Wednesday evening. Further rises are likely as upstream flows arrive. 
    
    Roper River below Elsey Creek:
    River levels are elevated throughout the Roper River catchment.
    
    Flood Safety Advice:
    Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
     Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
     Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
     Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
