Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Large Hailstones, Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for Great Southern and parts of Gascoyne, Goldfields, Central West, Central Wheat Belt, South Coastal and South East Coastal districts.

Severe thunderstorms have developed in the south of the state.

Weather Situation
A trough extending from the Lower West through to the Interior is triggering severe thunderstorms in a moist and unstable environment. The focus of thunderstorm activity will shift progressively southeastwards during the day, following the movement of the low and trough.
LARGE HAILSTONES, DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gascoyne, Goldfields, Central West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in the Great Southern and parts of the Goldfields, Central Wheat Belt, South Coastal and South East Coastal districts. Locations which may be affected include Kalgoorlie, Katanning, Merredin, Narrogin, Corrigin and Hyden.
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall in isolated locations that may lead to flash flooding over the next several hours in parts of the Gascoyne, Central West and Central Wheat Belt districts. Locations which may be affected include Moora, Dalwallinu, Mullewa, Wongan Hills, Yalgoo and Badgingarra.
Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Lower West and South West districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
40.6 mm was recorded at Arradale in the 3 hours to 4:15pm

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If there is flooding, create your own sandbags by using pillow cases filled with sand and place them around doorways to protect your home.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current.
* Slow down and turn your headlights on.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* If it is raining heavily and you cannot see, pull over and park with your hazard lights on until the rain clears.

The next warning is due to be issued by 7:30 pm.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Warm to hot conditions and fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds will combine to create elevated fire dangers.
