Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and parts of Goldfields, Central Wheat Belt and Central West districts.

Damaging winds to redevelop from this morning as another cold front impacts the southwest.

Weather Situation
A strong cold front crossed the southwest yesterday, with conditions temporarily easing overnight. A second strong cold front will cross the southwest coast early this morning, with further vigorous northwesterly winds bringing widespread impacts to broader parts of the South West Land Division for the remainder of the day.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Goldfields, Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt
West to northwesterly DAMAGING WINDS averaging 50 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are likely to redevelop about the second front over the South West district from early Monday morning, extending to the Lower West and South Coastal districts, including Perth, by the late morning, and the remainder of the warning area from around midday. Winds will then shift to the southwest behind this front, with DAMAGING WINDS likely to persist throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
Conditions are then expected to ease from the west during Monday evening, but DAMAGING WINDS may persist over southeast coastal parts of the warning area into Tuesday morning.
The front that crossed on Sunday produced weather that is about typical for this time of year. The front crossing on Monday is stronger, people in the southwest of WA experience fronts as windy as this about 5 times per year. This second front will be the strongest front of the year to date.
Locations which may be affected include Albany, Bunbury, Esperance, Katanning, Mandurah, Manjimup, Margaret River, Merredin, Mount Barker, Narrogin, Northam and Perth.
119 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Leeuwin at 1:06 pm.
100 km/h wind gust was recorded at Cape Naturaliste at 12:01 pm.
94 km/h wind gust was recorded at Rottnest Island at 9:50 am.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.
* Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows.
* Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning.
* If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water.
* Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Be careful of fallen trees, damaged buildings and debris.
* Be careful of fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live.
* Assess your home, car and property for damage.
* If damage has occurred take photos and contact your insurance company to organise permanent repairs.
* If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AWST Monday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Department of Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
