for Damaging Winds

for Central, South West and parts of East Gippsland, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera Forecast Districts.

Damaging wind gusts becoming more widespread on Tuesday.

Weather Situation
A complex low pressure system in the Bight extends a trough over central Victoria this evening, with strengthening northwesterly flow ahead of it about alpine areas. A second cold front will then cross the state on Tuesday and the pressure gradient will continue to strengthen, leading to more widespread vigorous northwesterly flow over western, central, and northeastern areas.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Central, East Gippsland, South West, North Central, North East, West and South Gippsland and Wimmera
For NORTHEASTERN RANGES: DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts of around 110 km/h are likely over alpine areas above 1400 metres overnight into Tuesday morning. From Tuesday afternoon ahead of the next cold front DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are likely to become more widespread. Terrain above 1400 metres may experience peak gusts of around 110 km/h again, with BLIZZARD conditions forecast to develop from Tuesday evening.
For the GRAMPIANS: Winds will temporarily ease during Tuesday morning before strengthening again during Tuesday afternoon ahead of the next cold front. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible during Tuesday afternoon.
For the WIMMERA, SOUTH WEST, CENTRAL and GIPPSLAND: Strong west to northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 90 km/h are possible from midday Tuesday for coastal and elevated parts of the Wimmera and South West districts, extending to the Central district during the afternoon, and western Gippsland by the evening. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS are also possible in showers and thunderstorms for inland and lower-lying parts of the warning area on Tuesday afternoon.

Locations which may be affected include Horsham, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Geelong, Stawell and Hamilton.
109 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mount Buller at 10:21 pm.
130 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mount Hotham at 9:46 pm.
96 km/h wind gust was recorded at Falls Creek at 9:24 pm.
91 km/h wind gust was recorded at Kilmore Gap at 8:06 pm,
107 km/h wind gust was recorded at Mount William at 2:13 am.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet.
* Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Stay indoors and away from windows.
* If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways.
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. Heavy rainfall may also increase the potential for landslides and debris across roads.

for Damaging Winds And Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Central, Northern Country, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.

A line of severe thunderstorms are moving through the area.

Weather Situation
An active trough is moving eastwards over Central Victoria.
DAMAGING WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Central, Northern Country, North Central, North East and West and South Gippsland
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.
Locations which may be affected include Euroa, Mansfield and Mt Baw Baw.
Yarck (Home Creek) has recorded 21.2mm in 30 mins to 10:45pm.

A series of vigorous troughs and cold fronts will cross Victoria over the next few days as a low passes south of Tasmania. This is expected to bring strong winds, elevated surf and sea levels across the state.
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES for the following areas:
Central, East Gippsland, South West and West and South Gippsland
ABNORMALLY HIGH TIDES may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas for the entire Victorian coast, including Port Phillip. Tides are likely to rise WELL ABOVE the normal high tide mark during Tuesday afternoon and evening high tides. Tides are again expected to rise WELL ABOVE the normal high tide mark during Wednesday afternoon and evening high tides.

Sheep graziers are warned that cold temperatures, rain and showers and northwesterly winds are expected during Tuesday. Areas likely to be affected include the South West forecast district and parts of the Wimmera, North Central, North East, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland forecast districts. There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
