Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Melbourne Area
for Western and Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula Local Warning Areas.
Issued at 9:08 pm Friday, 27 February 2026.
Previous very dangerous thunderstorms with intense rainfall are now outside of the Melbourne metropolitan area.
Warning for the following areas:

Severe thunderstorms in the warning area have temporarily eased. However, the redevelopment of severe thunderstorms remains possible about the outer western and northern areas this evening. The situation is being closely monitored and further detailed warnings will be issued as necessary.
35.8 MM WAS RECORDED AT BROADFORD IN THE 30 MINUTES TO 7:48 PM.
44.0 MM WAS RECORDED AT LILYDALE LAKE IN THE 60 MINUTES TO 5:00 PM.
37.4 mm was recorded at Droomers in the 3 hours to 6:15 pm.
31.0 mm was recorded at Beenak in the 60 minutes to 6:00 pm.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula,Western
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live.
* Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the North Central, Wimmera and parts of the Central, Mallee, South West, Northern Country and North East districts.
Other warnings may be current.
The next warning is due to be issued by 10:10 pm.
