Bush Walkers Weather Alert

for Western and Central Plateau forecast districts

snow for the following areas:
Western and Central Plateau forecast districts
Bush walkers are advised that snow as low as 700 metres is expected to develop this morning, then continue to lower to around 500 metres during the afternoon. The onset of the low snow and cold conditions is expected to be rapid as a cold front crosses during the morning. These hazardous conditions are expected to occur in parts of the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts.

The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EDT Wednesday.

Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds

for Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast and parts of Western, North East and Central Plateau Forecast Districts.

Issued at 4:40 am Thursday, 13 November 2025.

Damaging winds over southern and eastern areas today.

Weather Situation
Vigorous northwesterly flow ahead of an approaching cold front crossing the state today.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast and Central Plateau
For SOUTHERN AREAS: Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are possible over lower elevations including southern suburbs of HOBART. Over elevated terrain above 1000 metres, DAMAGING WINDS averaging 65 to 75 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h are likely during Thursday morning. Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by Thursday afternoon.
For NORTHEASTERN AREAS: Strong to DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts around 100 km/h are likely over elevated terrain, before extending to coastal areas during Thursday morning. Winds are forecast to ease below warning thresholds by late Thursday afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Kingston, Swansea, New Norfolk, Bicheno, Huonville, Geeveston, Dover and Fingal.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.

The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEDT Thursday.

Initial Minor Flood Warning For The River Derwent
Issued at 11:22 AM AEDT on Wednesday 12 November 2025
Flood Warning Number: 1

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BELOW MEADOWBANK DAM FROM THURSDAY AFTERNOON
Moderate rainfall has been observed since Tuesday evening which has resulted in river level rises across the catchment. Further rainfall is forecast for the remainder of Wednesday and into Thursday. This rainfall may result in minor flooding along the River Derwent at Below Meadowbank Dam from Thursday afternoon.

Styx River:
Elevated river levels are occurring along the Styx River. Further rises and flooding is possible at Bruces Bridge with forecast rainfall.
River Derwent below Meadowbank Dam:
Minor flooding may develop along the River Derwent at Below Meadowbank Dam from Thursday afternoon.
The River Derwent at Below Meadowbank Dam is currently at 2.22 m and falling, below the minor flood level.
The River Derwent at Below Meadowbank Dam may reach around the minor flood level (4.10 m) from Thursday afternoon. Further rises are possible with forecast rain.

Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
