Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and parts of East Coast, Midlands and Central Plateau Forecast Districts.
Issued at 4:30 pm Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
Damaging winds remain possible over the south of the state until later this evening.
Weather Situation
a trough is approaching the west coast, sustaining the risk of damaging winds until it crosses the state later tonight.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau and Midlands
DAMAGING NORTHWESTERLY WINDS averaging 55 to 65 km/h with peak gusts of around 100 km/h are possible over southern parts of the state, including the Western, South East, Upper Derwent Valley, Midlands, and East Coast districts.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds later this evening.
Locations which may be affected include Hobart, Strahan, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Geeveston, Dover, Strathgordon, Zeehan and Tarraleah.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the North East, North West Coast and Central North districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11:00 pm AEST Tuesday.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
