Severe Weather Warning
for Damaging Winds
for parts of North East and East Coast Forecast Districts.
Issued at 10:53 pm Thursday, 4 December 2025.
Damaging wind gusts over northeastern Tasmania.
Weather Situation
A cold front has moved through Tasmania today and has now contracted into the Tasman Sea. Winds will gradually ease in its wake early Friday morning.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
North East and East Coast
Strong northwesterly winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h with DAMAGING WIND GUSTS of around 100 km/h are likely over northeastern parts of the state for the remainder of tonight and into Friday morning.
Winds are expected to ease below warning thresholds early Friday morning.
Locations which may be affected include St Helens, Swansea, Bicheno, Fingal and Scamander.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Central North, Central Plateau and Midlands districts and the warning for these districts is CANCELLED.
115 km/h wind gust recorded at Maria Island at 12:19 pm.
107 km/h wind gust recorded at Hartz Mountains at 11:24 am.
102 km/h wind gust recorded at Hobart at 11:46 am.
120 km/h wind gust recorded at Kunanyi at 10:17 am.
Cancellation for the following areas:
Central North,Midlands,South East,Upper Derwent Valley,Central Plateau,Western
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 am AEDT Friday.
