Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego and Channel Country Forecast Districts.

Heavy rainfall continuing about parts of inland Queensland this evening.

Weather Situation
A moist and unstable environment combines with a surface trough through inland parts of the state to produce severe thunderstorms this evening.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Gulf Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Central West, Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Winton, Barcaldine, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek and Gregory Springs.
56 mm was recorded at Mahrigong in the 30 minutes to 7:07 pm.
45 mm was recorded at Joylands in the 1 hour to 6:25 pm.
95 mm was recorded at Muttaburra in the 3 hours to 9.15 pm

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 1:35 am Sunday.

Minor Flood Warning For The Barcoo River And Cooper Creek

RENEWED MINOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT RETREAT AND POSSIBLE AT WINDORAH SUNDAY EVENING
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BLACKALL SUNDAY EVENING
Renewed minor flooding is occurring along the Barcoo River at Retreat as a flood peak in the lower Barcoo Rivers arrives. Further downstream, renewed minor flooding is expected to occur along the Cooper Creek at Windorah from Sunday evening as upstream flows arrive.
In the upper Barcoo River, moderate to heavy rainfall overnight Friday into Saturday has resulted in some river level rises upstream of Isisford. Minor flooding is possible along the Barcoo River at Blackall from Sunday evening.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast to continue in the catchment into next week, with isolated moderate to heavy rainfall, which may cause further river level rises.
A Flood Watch is current for parts of South East Queensland, Wide Bay and Burnett and Central inland catchments.

Barcoo River to Isisford:
Minor flooding is possible along the Barcoo River upstream of Isisford.
No observations are currently available for the Barcoo River at Blackall. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river is expected to be below the minor flood level and steady.
The Barcoo River at Blackall may exceed the minor flood level (2.00 m) Sunday afternoon. The river may peak near 2.00 m Sunday evening, with minor flooding.

Barcoo River downstream of Isisford:
Renewed minor flooding is occurring along the Barcoo River downstream of Isisford.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is currently at 2.82 m and rising, with minor flooding.
The Barcoo River at Retreat is expected to peak near 3.00 m during Sunday, with minor flooding. The river is expected to remain above the minor flood level (2.14 m) into Sunday evening.

Cooper Creek:
Renewed minor flooding is possible along the Cooper Creek at Windorah.
No observations are currently available for the Cooper Creek at Windorah. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river is estimated to be below the minor level and rising.
The Cooper Creek at Windorah is estimated to reach around 3.00 m during Sunday evening, with minor flooding. Peak forecasts will be provided as upstream peaks are observed.

Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
