for Heavy Rainfall

for parts of North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and Central West Forecast Districts.

Isolated embedded thunderstorms have redeveloped about the North Tropical Coast near Babinda.

Weather Situation
A broad area of tropical moisture extends over central and northern parts of the state. A surface trough lies through inland districts and is a trigger for clusters of slow-moving thunderstorms that are likely to produce localised areas of heavy rainfall throughout the evening. Over the North Tropical coast, isolated severe thunderstorms are embedded in a broader area of rain causing locally heavy falls in an area between Cairns and Innisfail.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, North West and Central West
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Winton, Cloncurry, Richmond, Julia Creek, Stamford, Gordonvale, Mckinlay, Babinda, Cloney's Creek and Corfield.

Emergency services advise people to:
* Park your car undercover away from trees.
* Close doors and windows.
* Keep asthma medications close by. Storms and wind can trigger asthma attacks.
* Charge mobile phones and power banks in case the power goes out.
* Put your pets somewhere safe and make sure they can be identified in case they get lost.
* Do not drive now unless you have to because conditions are dangerous.
* Tell friends, family and neighbours in the area.
* Go inside a strong building now. Stay inside until the storm has passed.

The next warning is due to be issued by 10:30 pm.

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT RICHMOND POST OFFICE FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON WITH FORECAST RAINFALL
Moderate rainfall recorded since early Friday morning has resulted in river level rises in the upper Flinders River catchment. Showers and storms with possible heavy rainfall are forecast to continue in the catchment for the next few days, which may cause moderate flooding at Richmond Post Office from Monday afternoon.

Flinders River to Richmond:
Moderate flooding is possible along the Flinders River to Richmond.
No observations are currently available for the Flinders River at Richmond Post Office. Based on the nearby automatic gauge, the river level is expected to be below the minor flood level and rising.
The Flinders River at Richmond Post Office is likely to exceed the minor flood level (5.00 m) Sunday evening. The river may reach around the moderate flood level (6.00 m) Monday afternoon with forecast rainfall.

Moderate Flood Warning For The Western River And Minor Flood Warning For The Diamantina River

MODERATE FLOODING POSSIBLE AT WINTON FROM MONDAY
MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE AT BIRDSVILLE FROM MONDAY
River levels remain elevated along the Diamantina River, where the main flood peak is passing through Roseberth and slowly approaching Birdsville. Minor flooding is possible at Birdsville from Monday.
Heavy rainfall has been observed across the eastern part of the Western River catchment during Saturday, which has the potential to cause significant river level rises along the Western River and its tributaries. Moderate flooding may develop at Winton from Monday.
Further downstream, minor flooding is occurring along the Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes.
Areas of showers and rainfall are possible over parts of the catchment for the next few days which may cause further river level rises in some areas. This warning will be updated as required.

Diamantina River to Diamantina Lakes:
The Diamantina River at Diamantina Lakes is currently at 2.57 m and rising, above the minor flood level (2.00 m) and above the level of the Springvale Diamantina Lakes Road Causeway (2.10 m).
Western River:
Moderate flooding may develop at Winton from Monday.
No observations are currently available for the Western River at Winton. However, based on the observed data at upstream gauges, the river level at Winton is expected to be below the minor flood level and steady.
The Western River at Winton may reach around the moderate flood level (2.00 m) from Monday.

Diamantina River downstream of Diamantina Lakes:
Minor flooding is occurring at Roseberth and is estimated to have eased at Monkira. Minor flooding is possible at Birdsville from Monday.
At 9:00 am Saturday, the Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station was at 3.70 m and steady, below the minor flood level.
The Diamantina River at Birdsville Police Station may reach around the minor flood level (4.00 m) from Monday.

MODERATE FLOODING TO CONTINUE AT GLENGYLE
FLOOD LEVELS TO FALL BELOW MINOR AT BEDOURIE DURING FRIDAY
The flood peak along the Eyre Creek is around Glengyle, where moderate flooding is estimated to be continuing. Creek levels at Bedourie fell below the moderate flood level during Thursday and are expected fall below the minor flood level during Friday.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast in the catchment over the weekend and into next week, with isolated moderate to heavy rainfall possible, however this is not expected to have a significant impact on current river and creek levels.

Eyre Creek:
Moderate flooding is continuing along Eyre Creek around Glengyle. Minor flooding is estimated to be continuing along King Creek at Cluny.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is currently at 3.53 m and steady, with minor flooding.
The Eyre Creek at Bedourie is expected to fall below the minor flood level (3.50 m) during Friday.

No currently creek level observations are available for the Eyre Creek at Glengyle. The creek level is estimated to be above the moderate flood level (3.00 m) and steady.
The Eyre Creek at Glengyle is expected to remain above the moderate flood level (3.00 m) over the weekend.
