for Gregory, Barkly and Tanami districts.

Isolated damaging winds with thunderstorms have eased through the central NT.

Weather Situation
A moist and unstable airmass combined with a trough through the central NT in the afternoon to produce severe thunderstorms with a risk of damaging winds.
cancellation of severe thunderstorm warning for the following areas:
Gregory, Barkly and Tanami
This warning is now cancelled.
The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.
93 km/h wind gust was recorded at Lajamanu Airport at 3:26 pm.

The Northern Territory Emergency Service advises that people should:
* avoid driving into water of unknown depth and current
* stay away from fallen power lines. They are dangerous and should always be treated as live
* stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways
* for emergency help in floods, storms and cyclones, contact the NTES on 132 500. For more safety tips visit www.securent.nt.gov.au

Flood Warning For The Nicholson, Gregory, And Albert Rivers
Issued at 01:30 PM AEST on Wednesday 21 January 2026
Flood Warning Number: 6

RIVER LEVELS ARE ELEVATED ALONG THE NICHOLSON, GREGORY, AND ALBERT RIVERS
River levels are elevated along the Gregory, Albert, and Nicholson Rivers. At Burketown Airstrip, it is expected that the river level is rising as flows arrive from upstream.
The chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast across the catchment over the next few days, which may cause additional river level rises.

Nicholson and Gregory Rivers:
River level rises are occurring along the Gregory and Nicholson Rivers, and are expected to be occurring along the Albert River at Burketown over the next few days.

Flood Safety Advice:
Don't drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater because it is dangerous.
Stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
Obey road closure signs. Plan ahead so you don't drive on flooded roads.
Check the ABC and local media for updates. The situation can change quickly, so stay informed.
