Hazardous Surf Warning for New South Wales

Weather Situation
Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming in the following areas.

Hunter Coast

Warnings for Thursday 01 May

Hazardous Surf Warning for the following areas:
Macquarie Coast, Hunter Coast, Sydney Coast and Illawarra Coast

NSW Police Force, Marine Area Command advise that:
People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan.

The next warning will be issued by 5:00 am EST Thursday.

Minor Flood Warning For The Tuggerah Lake
Issued at 09:20 AM EST on Wednesday 30 April 2025
Flood Warning Number: 3

MINOR FLOODING CONTINUING AT LONG JETTY, LIKELY TO PERSIST UNTIL LATER THIS WEEK
Moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend across the Wyong River and Tuggerah Lake catchment has caused river, creek and lake level rises across the catchment. Minor flooding is occurring in Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty where the lake level is likely to remain above the minor flood level until later this week.
Showers and the chance of a thunderstorm are forecast over the next few days which may cause further rises as well as slowing the recession of levels in Tuggerah Lake. The situation is being closely monitored and warnings will be updated as required.

Tuggerah Lake:
Minor flooding is occurring in Tuggerah Lake.
The Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty is currently at 0.99 metres and steady, above the minor flood level (0.90 m).
The Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty is likely to peak around 1.00 metre during Wednesday and remain above the minor flood level until Friday.

Flood Safety Advice:
In life threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. If you require rescue, assistance to evacuate or other emergency help, ring NSW SES on 132 500.
* Avoid drowning. Stay out of rising water, seek refuge in the highest available place.
* Prevent damage to your vehicle. Move it under cover, away from areas likely to flood.
* Avoid being swept away. Stay out of fast-flowing creeks and storm drains.
* Never drive, ride or walk through flood water. Flood water can be deceptive and dangerous.}
