Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for Heavy Rainfall
for parts of Maitland/Cessnock, Greater Newcastle, Gosford/Wyong and Sydney areas.

Heavy rainfall developing north of Sydney.
HEAVY RAINFALL for the following areas:
Maitland/Cessnock, Greater Newcastle, Gosford/Wyong and Sydney
The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:40 pm, severe thunderstorms likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding were detected near Maitland and Brooklyn. These thunderstorms are moving towards the southeast. They are forecast to affect Mona Vale, Morpeth and Tocal by 7:10 pm and Calga, Kurri Kurri and Beresfield by 7:40 pm.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't walk, ride your bike or drive through flood water.
* If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
* Stay indoors away from windows, and keep children and pets indoors as well.

A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Hunter, Metropolitan, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Australian Capital Territory, Central West Slopes and Plains and Snowy Mountains districts.
The next warning is due to be issued by 7:45 pm.
